What kind of Stroller for Airport, All terrain travel would recommend?

วันพฤหัสบดีที่ 11 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2552 1
Besides the Mountain Buggy which is a bit expensive for me. I am planning to trail walk and maybe jog out of the country. I will also use this stroller at the airport so I need it to be compact. I am wondering if any parent has my situation what type of all terrain small compact light stroller do you use. Can anyone give names please. Thank you.

My son is 9 MOnths old and weighs 20 lbs.

Just get a cheap umbrella stroller. That's all you really need and it won't tire you out. That's what my husband and I do when we travel.

Have you thought about a Baby Jogger Stroller? At $299.99 its almost two hunderd dollars cheaper than the cheapest Mountain Buggy. Baby Jogger ATS Jogging Stroller has a super compact easy fold and the tires are perfect for off-roading. http://www.strollers.com/Baby-Jogger-5700X-IJ1276.html http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20080404224540AA2qOnS&kid=HpxGOGfBCkO76Up8mqQm&s=comm&date=2008-05-16+08%3A30%3A01&.crumb=

What is the purpose of the airport tower searchlight?

วันศุกร์ที่ 5 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2552 0
In today's world of GPS navigational aides, satilites and air traffic control, why does every airport in America have a fixed rotating blue / white beacon light operating somewhere near or offset from the airport tower?

OK. I honestly DON'T know what that light is for, but i do know that it usually triggers the radar detector in my car whenever i am within 2 miles of the airport!

As far as dangerman's claim of civilian aircraft not using precision approaches? THEY DO. We used to make jokes that when most US regional carriers were 'grounded' our pilots would be landing as if it was a sunny day.

SKILL+EXPERIENCE+BALLS. Note that half of this particular airline's crews had military training, therefore were not guessing. They would generally not TAKEOFF in this weather though!

To be accurate, it is a beacon, not a searchlight. But the reason is that it is still a reliable navigation aid even in the modern world of technology. If your radio shorts out, or the GPS satellites go offline, or the air traffic controllers go on a coffee break, the beacon is still there. Besides, there are a lot of smaller airports with no ATC services, and a lot of general aviation aircraft that do not have GPS, VORs or even radios. So to be able to find the airfield in unfamiliar or deteriorating weather conditions is invaluable. Also, in areas of high traffic and where a military airfield is only a few miles from a civilian field, they can help GA pilots make sure they are closing on the correct airfield and not mistakenly violate military airspace. Military airfields use the same beacon, but instead of alternating blue and white, they use a single blue light and dual peaked white lights spaced a few degrees apart, so from the air it appears as a single blue follo
wed shortly by two quick whites. An exapmple of this is in Arizona where Luke Air Force Base is only 5 miles or so from Glendale airport.

The beacon (green/white as previously corrected) operates anytime the weather is below 1000 foot ceiling or 3 miles visibility -- the legal definition of Visual Flight Rules (VFR)

Actually, the rotating beacon is supposed to be aviation green and white, not blue and white... Military airports flash one green and two white, while civilian airports flash one green and one white.

If you know what you're looking for, it makes it much easier to spot the airport when flying over a built-up area at night. The distinctive green/white beacon is easy to pick out from among steady burning street lights and business signs.

A little redundancy is a good thing. We still have quite a few operating light houses too

it's got two colours, green and white. they rotate and emit a code (short or long pulses) which identify which airfield it is.

Their purpose is for visual recognition of the airport at night. When you're several miles out they can be very helpful. A GPS will tell you exactly how far away an airport is however, you still need to have visual contact to know where to go. A trained eye can spot the white/green flashes and distinguish the airport from say a parking lot. They also identify the type of airport by their color sequence. I've got a feeling that this lighting system will be around indefinitely. It's simple and and tremendously helpful for general aviation pilots.

Many planes have no RNAV avionic equipment. There are planes without RNAV in airline operations. Radar coverage does not extend to all airports. The beacon is easy to spot from a good distance. It can be especially helpful when the airport is in the midst of many other lights.

so aircraft in case of an electronical gps alure can fingd the runway.

It is usually used to indicate when conditions are too bad to land, however as you said there are lots of nav aids to help land the AC when conditions are too bad. Its a hold over from the days without radio and in a lot of places they don't use it anymore. My local strip does but they are an uncontrolled airport.

BTW the ATC really doesn't help the AC land only the military use Precision Approaches because they have to land in all kinds of weather in the civilian side if the weather is too bad planes don't take off and land.

What kind of dress was Reese Witherspoon wearing in airport scene in Four Xmases? Light blue/grey wrap...?

วันพฤหัสบดีที่ 4 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2552 0
I think it was grey or light blue, in the scene where they go to the airport and flight gets canceled and they are interviewed. Trying to find the dress as a xmas present....

It was difficult to find a photo of the dress, but I found these two:

From those, I would say it is a wrap. If I knew the size you were looking for I could be more helpful, but since I do not, here are a bunch of similar dresses in a variety of sizes to help you in your search:

With light jet point to point service more small airport improvements needed?

With thousands of small municipal airports out there in need of modernization do you think the government will provide funding for improvments if VLJ service catches on in a big way? WAAS approaches for every airport?

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1266817/M/

VLJ/airtaxis may catch on in areas without IFR weather most of days of the year. Waas approaches will be numerous, if not everywhere. The airtaxi, it would seem, cannot be profitable using two pilots, unless the FO is paid pennies.

Will the business traveler be comfortable with a single pilot operation? Stay tuned.

Yes, it will require some upgrades but I think it will be the cities that currently see scheduled regional airline service... This way, the taxi companies will know that there is a market there... and the selling point for the air taxt service will be that you do not have to connect... if you fly with an airline, out of a regional airport, most of the time you will be connecting...

Nope. In fact, the government turned over the ops of FSS to a private company. Don't think they'll be spending money to improve airports to handle VLJ's.

My home airport is fully capable of handling VLJ's or other jets, and it's in Class G airspace, uncontrolled, no tower.

Course, that's one of the reasons I like it, is because it is the way it is...

Is there any public transport(apart from shuttles) to get from Folsom to Sacramento airport?

วันพุธที่ 3 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2552 0
Is there any public transport(apart from shuttles) to get from Folsom to Sacramento airport, like a combination of light rail from Folsom and bus at Sacramento? Or do you think taking my car to the airport and packing there for a 3-4 day trip is safe enough?

Public Transit is the WAY TO GO!

Call 321-BUSS for personal trip planning.

Light Rail departs Folsom to downtown Sacramento where you would switch to the YoloBus which takes travelers to both Sacramento Terminals. MUCH BETTER idea than parking. I've used this alternative many times. Only limited when traveling with children - only because its a hassle to handle kids and luggage on the Light rail or on the bus.

Happy Travels.

I think parking for 3-4 days would be fine. Use the long-term ("economy") parking lot.

Will I get a ticket at the red light camera by an airport?

วันอังคารที่ 2 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2552 0
I was taking a left turn at an intersection that had the red light camera installed. It was green when I left the intersection, then it turned orange and red right before i got into the other intersection and the camera flashed. The guy ahead of me braked so I could not get into the intersection until 1 sec after the light turned red. I don't know if I will be getting a ticket or not. If I do, do I have a good chance of winning if I fight the ticket? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

well, there not taken pictures of the airplanes..........

yeah... if u can prove that somebody hit the brakes

Why are there different lights at the runway at the airport at night?

You know how at night at an airport you can see the different colored lights? like, there's blue, green, red, white, do they stand for anything? if they do, what?

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here's two of them:

http://virtualskies.arc.nasa.gov/communication/tutorial/images/3markings.gif

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/policy/army/fm/90-26/figa-4.gif

Airports are hard to see at night, especially runways (where take-offs and landings occur) and taxiways (paved paths that lead between runways and the passenger or cargo terminal ramps). Using colored lights to outline the areas on which aircraft move makes them easier to see and follow at night.

Runways have the most complex lighting, and there are many different ways to light the runway. White lights alone the sides of the runway are typical, with some arrangement of red and/or yellow lights to help mark the ends. Complex light arrangements may be set up just off each end of the runway to help pilots spot the start of the runway at landing and help them to line up precisely with the middle of the runway as they come in to land. Other lights at the runway ends help pilots to check that they are at the correct height above the runway as they descend for landing. Sometimes flashing lights are used, such as the "rabbit," a line of bright white lights that flashes in sequence at the end of a runway, pointing pilots in the right direction for landing.

Outside of runways, taxiways are usually outlined in blue lights. At airports where the weather is often misty or foggy, green lights may be installed on the centerlines of the taxiways in addition to the blue lights at the edges, so that the pilots can find their way between the runways and terminals even when it's hard to see very far.

There are other lights that some airports use, such as flashing "traffic lights" near runways, or red lights in the pavement right in front of a runway (to remind pilots that they are about to enter a runway), and so on.

Lights are not used in exactly the same way at every airport in the world, but they are used in ways consistent enough that pilots usually don't have any trouble finding their way around on the ground and lining up with the runway during landing.

Blue are taxiway lights, green mark the end of a runway or a centerline embedded light on a taxiway, red can be the far end of a runway or part of the instrument landing system... There are lots of different color lights used in different situations. There are a few books, specifically the AIM (Airmen's Information Manual) that could give details for you.

I want to take the light rail/tram from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Sultanahmet?

วันจันทร์ที่ 1 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2552 0
Are there elevators in the airport to get you to the light rail station? I have a suitcase which I'm not strong enough to get on an escalator with. I can't seem to find any info about elevators at the metro station. Thanks!

Yes there are elevators also some caddies, some guys you can hire. But Sultanahmet station is another story. Ask your hotel send some one to pick you up. Or ask taxi driver. They never say no. Do not worry you will be fine:)

What type of lights are used on airport runways?

You know those huge international airports, they have these powerful flood lights that are used to guide the planes on the runway. What type of lights are those? Sodium? Xenon? How powerful are they actually? Like, how much lux do they give off? Anyone know this?

LEDs

Actually runway lights (the ones that line the runways if that's what you're referring to) are just long life incandescent bulbs; sort of like smaller light bulbs like you would find in a fixture at home. Their intensity may be raised or lowered by the tower crew or the pilots themselves at fields with pilot controlled lighting.

Runways are not illuminated by large floodlamps as we would be blinded when trying to take off or land. Ramps may be lighted by floodlights in certain areas.

Approach lights at the end of the runway or in series before the runways are usually xenon strobes. I have no idea of their candlepower however.

Well there just regular bulbs with a colored glass over them.. They can be controlled like the ones in you house to be dimmed or real bright,,, and yes they do get hit occasionally

and there are guys that ride around in a truck at my terminal changes bulbs 8 hrs a day
