A light plane flew from its home base to an airport 255 miles away. With a head wind, the trip took 1.7 hourse. The return trip with a tail wint took 1.5 hourse. Find the average airspeed of the plane and the average windspeed.

1.7(p - w) = 255

1.5(p + w) = 255

Dividing by 1.7 and 1.5 simplifies the equations to:

p - w = 150

p + w = 170 Add these together.

w = 10

The plane flies at 160 mph and the wind blows at 10 mph.
