Why are there so many round roads in England? Instead of traffic lights there is just a round road.?

I just visited England for the first time (from America), and I flew to the main airport (Heathrow). I rented my car and drove to this girl's place in Colchester so we could have sex (we met over the net and I went to visit her - she was awesome by the way!)

Anyways, aside from the BAD traffic in London (argh, so much traffic!) and getting used to driving on the other side, my biggest hassle was the round intersections everywhere. Instead of a traffic light, there is a circle of traffic and you peel off the circle to hit your road. Oh man, I had some crazy times in those things!

Anyways, what's up with those? Why is that the system, instead of traffic lights? I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just curious about the difference.

Also, man, WTF if is up with your GAS PRICES??? Whoa, every time I filled up that car, it was like filling up a huge truck back in the states. REALLY expensive!!!

We have roundabouts here in the US. There are a bunch of them where I live. Unfortunately, nobody knows how to navigate them or what the traffic rules are.

LMAO welcome to England and our odd ways, the roundabouts stop congestion ,or they should lol,it is knowing just what lane to get in causes problems..The gas/petrol is very high compared to most other countries but i guess as we are stupid enough to pay it ,then the suppliers will keep the price up.I am glad you had fun,but wow thank goodness she was so good .

Traffic circles, or Round-abouts, are cheaper than traffic lights and keep traffic flowing. They have them all over New England in the US.

Gas has always been more expensive in the UK than in the US. It's even more so now. To offset that they have cars that you can buy there that get way better gas mileage than anything you can buy in the States.

You were brave to drive in London! I always take the Underground. Next time you could consider train passes from Rail Europe. The trains go everywhere, including Colchester, and they're super efficient.

Ask your president why are "Gas" prices are so high!

Roundabouts are fab!!!

I just moved back to California from Europe, and I loved the round- abouts, as the round road is called. It is a better system to keep the traffic flowing. If you don't know which way to get off, you just around again until you see which way to go. Lovely! Once you get used to it, you would hate the system we have here in America.

As to gas prices, I paid $8 for ten years, so paying $3 here in California is wonderful. It's all in the perspective, isn't it?

I think you could have left out that you had sex with a stranger, though. Guess I'm too old to understand this new way of openness. I'm glad you enjoyed her, and also that you had a bit of education as to how the world is different and yet alike.

London is terribly expensive; I won't go back again, but I do love that I was able to be there and learn so much about another country.
